While I am still enamored with and happily expanding the idea of simple lines, shapes and relationships, my tree imagery has become more delicate lately. Flowers are appearing in my mind's eye again...perhaps in anticipation of spring and summer. I prefer to work in series, but have realized that I need to have several different series going at a time...they produce a creative dialog among themselves.
Wax, oil and soft pastel continue to be my media of choice for their tactile qualities and their unique ability to be both drawing and painting media. It's been interesting to experiment the past few months with different kinds of paper supports: the type of paper really makes a difference in the look and feel of the finished piece. It's all about the joy of process!
In addition, my love of photography has been rekindled and I'm excited about macro work in the context of line and shape. The minutia of the world is fascinating, as are reflections, refractions and shadows...lots to explore here!
Although I have been painting all my life, I have made the making of art a priority and commitment since the late 1980s. I have taken various workshops over the years, pursue independent study on an ongoing basis and have been exhibiting and selling my work since the early 1990s. Memberships include Mackinac 7 Artists, Ann Arbor Women Artists, Great Lakes Pastel Society and the Oil Pastel Society.
